International Prospects: A Risk Not Worth Taking

June 30 has arrived. What typically is a time of rampant free agent speculation and off the wall trade rumors has morphed into a dark day of anxiety. David Stern, Billy Hunter, Derek Fisher, and others have this one last day to come to a new labor agreement. One more day until the CBA expires. One more day until the owners impose a lockout on the players (maybe). One more day until all hell breaks loose and Armageddon is unleashed on the basketball world.

1st Annual NBA Post-Draft Awards Show (June 27)

Yet another David Kahn masterpiece!
Hey, remember last Friday when I said I would get my post draft awards up by the end of the day? Remember that? Yeah…well…uh…it’s Monday. In all seriousness; all six of you who follow Boris Diaw Time should know by now that when I say “later in the day,” I actually mean two or three days later. Oh well, it’s my birthday today so cut me some slack. Here they are, in all their late glory; my honorary post draft awards!

In case you missed my team by team draft reviews, here are the links to Part I (Eastern Conference) and Part II (Western Conference)

BDT -- NBA Draft Review Part II: Western Conference (June 24)

You're finally free my friend...in Utah?
In case you missed it, here’s Part I of my draft review. In Part I, I recapped each Eastern Conference teams’ draft. In Part II, I’ll do the same for the Western Conference.

BDT -- NBA Draft Review Part I: Eastern Conference (June 24)

You gotta respect a guy who uses his first NBA interview to rip on Chris Bosh.
I don’t know about you, but I absolutely nailed last night’s draft…you know, if you don’t count getting all the picks wrong or anything. OK, so maybe a six year old would have had more success figuring out last night’s draft than me! In all fairness, it seemed an awful lot like several teams actually went ahead and let that very same six year old run their draft war room.

BDT -- Final Draft Thoughts (June 23)

Do NOT mess with David Stern! He will have you killed!
Draft day is finally here and there is still plenty of uncertainty surrounding tonight’s draft. Will Kyrie Irving go #1? Will Minnesota find a taker for the #2 pick? Will the world be set straight as Jimmer ends up in the one place he truly belongs; Utah? Will Isaiah Thomas sneak into the building and attempt to sabotage the Knicks draft? Will David Stern have him, or anyone else, killed? These are all legitimate questions (Yes! All of them!) heading into tonight’s draft.

With all this uncertainty, I have a few questions of my own:

BDT -- NBA Mock Draft (June 22)

Can you guess who my #1 pick was? No, seriously, guess!
We’re only one day away from the 2011 NBA Draft; the last meaningful NBA related event until 2039! If there’s one thing you can say about this draft, it’s that it should be wildly unpredictable…you know, since each prospect is about as mediocre and unexciting as the next. In most years, I tend to get a bit more optimistic as the draft approaches, having spent an inordinate amount of time researching and thinking about each player. This year…not so much. Somehow, I’m more pessimistic about this draft than I was two months ago!  Still, that won’t stop me from enjoying tomorrow night’s proceedings, and it certainly won’t stop me from doing my mock draft!

BDT -- Boris Diaw News and the Future of the NBA (June 21)

$9 million for Diaw? What a deal!

Big news for Boris Diaw Time! Our very own Boris Diaw has exercised his $9 million player option for next season and will remain with the Charlotte Bobcats! Diaw averaged 11.3ppg and a big 5rpg last season...quite a stat line for the bargain basement price of $9 mill!

BDT -- NOT the Next Tiger! (June 21)

Congrats on your first major Rory! Only 13 more to go...
In the seven months Boris Diaw Time has been up and running, I have spent precious little time on golf. I’ve discussed endless amounts of basketball and football, and have even found the time to sprinkle in some hockey and baseball. Heck, I’ve spent more time on movies than I have on golf! This utter lack of attention may not seem like an odd thing to you, but believe me, it is far more ironic than you can imagine.

BDT -- NBA Draft Project: 1989-2008; The World's Biggest Crap Shoot (June 20)

Seriously, how could you not love the draft?
For a serious NBA fan such as myself, the end of the season is a sad time.  Month after month of compelling, top end basketball is replaced with…the WNBA? The Marlins replacing their manager for the 186th time? Matt Leinart to the Seahawks rumors? Please, somebody wake me up when it’s November.

BDT -- Mark Cuban: Champion or Clown? (June 16)

Perhaps the hat makes him look like a clown, but the trophy says otherwise.

Mark Cuban is a man of great passion. Mark Cuban is a man of great wealth. Mark Cuban is a man of great influence. And, finally, after eleven long years as the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban is a champion.

Oh, and also, Mark Cuban is a moron…

…WHAT?!?!?

BDT -- MLB Can't Make Up Its Mind! (June 14)

Who needs more crazy gimmicks when you have these guys? MORE SAUSAGE RACES MLB!
Written by: Casey Richey

Casey is a frequent contributor to Boris Diaw Time! and a regular guest on the Boris Diaw Time! podcast. Considering my lack of knowledge/interest in all matters baseball, Casey is our unquestioned head of the MLB department. Also, Casey actually knows how to write so I don't have to edit the crap out of the things he sends me...unlike certain other contributors...*cough* Prince *cough*...

--------------------

Why do I feel like I’m the only person on the planet who thinks MLB is being dumb right now? Oh sure, on the surface, and perhaps to the casual fan, it appears they’re trying to address the pressing issues within the sport. If you’ve paid any attention to baseball media over the last year, you’ve been told there is great need for another playoff team in each league. We all know that one league has more teams than the other, and, well, that’s just goofy. And finally, we all know the current setup is unfair for the Orioles and Pirates, and unless something is done right away, neither team will ever make the playoffs again!

BDT -- A Finals for the Ages (June 13)

I may or may not have cried a little last night...
Rarely in life do actual events live up to their lofty expectations. You receive bag after bag of ugly sweaters for your birthday, your first car ends up being a crappy 1997 Saturn SC-1 that needs an engine replacement within a month, and your first girlfriend is…well, let’s just agree to nod grimly and move on, okay? Good. This is true not only in the “real” world, but also in the sports world. The Super Bowl has given us such gems as Bucs-Raiders, Giants-Ravens, Kerry Collins throwing 37 interceptions during Giants-Ravens, and Kerry Collins playing in the Super Bowl to begin with. (Honorable mention goes to Rex Grossman ever throwing a single pass in his life) The World Series has given us major disappointments such as steroids and baseball in general. And the NBA has given us such clunkers as the WNBA (wait, forget that one…I forgot I was talking about things with lofty expectations) and the late ‘90’s.

BDT -- Heat Squarely on Miami (June 10)

It's just so confusing why the spotlight would be so harsh on Miami...it's not like they asked for it or anything...
With every free throw dropping through the net and every second ticking off the clock, the tension in the American Airlines Center builds. Swish! Swish! As the clock agonizingly winds to zeros, the utter defeat of the moment etches itself onto their faces; unmistakable and clear as day, as if Brooks was carving his famous “Brooks was here” onto their foreheads instead of the Shawshank halfway house. That type of defeat is hard for any of us to describe or understand. It’s more than being defeated by your friends in Xbox Live. It’s more than being defeated in your local rec league softball tournament. I suppose it would be more like being defeated in your local rec league softball tournament, only if you were beaten in the final inning of the championship game after the other teams uncoordinated, overweight catcher (Fred) smacks a walkoff two run homer with two outs. And also if your team (comprised of Americans) was playing in Iran. And Fred is actually named Ahmed. And tens of millions of people are watching you. And they all hate you. Yep, that’s the kind of defeat I’m talking about.

BDT with Laney and Prince (June 10)

Prince hates this...but really, what does he know?

Jon talks to Laney and Prince about Dallas' epic victory over Miami in Game 5.

BDT -- Quitness 2.0 (June 9)

Tuesday night's Game 4 reminded me of something...can you guess what it is?
It’s been nearly two weeks since I’ve sat down to write something. TWO WEEKS! In all honesty, I kinda feel like Jim Tressel with an “important” email on my computer…lost, confused, scared, don’t know what to do. (Too easy?) Don’t worry though, I’ll pull it together before anybody finds out Boris Diaw Time handed out fifty free cars…wouldn’t want to get hit with forty scholarship reductions, forfeiture of wins, and a three year bowl ban! (Whoops! Sorry OSU fans!)
