NFL Free Agency Day 2 Review

He's very fat, he's very lazy...and he could be the key to New England's Super Bowl aspirations.
Day 2 of the NFL free agency period is done and NFL owners are making rain like Pacman Jones. As busy as Day 1 was, Day 2 surpassed it and threw in some unexpected twists. With so much to talk about, and so much more about to happen let's not waste any more time.

In case you didn't get a chance to read it, here is my Day 1 recap. On to Day 2!

NFL Free Agency Day 1 Review

I've seen far too much of this. GO AWAY ROY! YOU SUCK!
Day 1 of the long awaited free agency period is in the books and there's already quite a bit to digest. Maybe the extended time away from football skewed my memory, but I had completely forgotten that NFL people were nearly as dumb as NBA people (not quite...nobody is that dumb...except the NCAA). Welcome back football!

Some Things I Don't Understand...

Not an unfamiliar sight at all, but there is still a way he can top himself...
After a looooooong wait, we're finally in the midst of NFL free agency...and what a joy it is! I'm not saying I haven't gotten any work done today, but I may or may not have checked ESPN and Twitter every 30 seconds. Really though, can you blame me? Unfounded rumors and wild speculations are rampant this afternoon, and I simply can't help myself!

The downside, of course, is that it's pointless for me to write anything about the NFL...you know, since the entire landscape of the league may have changed by the time I'm done writing! To the five people who read my crap, don't worry! Even though we'll be taking a one day break from talking football, I've got some other things in mind.

NFL Free Agent/Trade Preview - WR's (July 25)

The next coach of the Philadelphia Eagles!
Football is back! Thank goodness...

At this point, I'm not exactly sure what I'm more excited about; getting to hear about actual football news, or NOT having to hear about the lockout. It certainly has been an annoying journey for NFL fans, but it's finally over. We can finally get back to football!

NFL Free Agent Preview - RB's (July 22)

So, guys...which of these overpriced FA's will you be wasting your money on this year?
Yesterday's tweet of the day goes to BDT friend and Colts blogger (18to88.com) Nate Dunlevy. Nate tweets, "It's counter intuitive, I know, but the closer we get to a CBA deal, the less attention I'm paying. It'll happen eventually, so why sweat it?" Spot on Nate! Exactly how I feel.

NFL Free Agent/Trade Preview - QB's (July 21)

Who wouldn't be excited about having this guy as their starting QB?!
NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL NFL

So, yeah......I'm pretty excited about football. No, the lockout isn't *officially* over. And yes, James Harrison could, theoretically, singlehandedly kill the entire thing by laying helmet to forehead hits on Roger Goodell and the entire NFL negotiating team. This is unlikely (70-30 against?).

Most Annoying in Sports (July 20)

Look! It's Rex Ryan!
Credit for this idea goes to Jack Erwin and Chris Yuscavage from complex.com. Great idea guys!

There’s a lot to love about sports. Whether it’s the thrill of your favorite teams’ victory, the joy of witnessing Lebron’s humiliation, or the sheer pleasure of placing “The Victory Call” to your best friend; sports provides us with countless great moments and many fantastic characters.

Of course, in addition to the good aspects of sports, there are the bad. Even worse, there is the annoying…

Weekend Thoughts (July 18)

Hey buddy, missed you this week. Maybe we can hang out soon? Please?
A lot went down this past weekend in the world of sports. That is, of course, assuming you count women's soccer as a sport.....I KID, I KID! Anyways, Casey, Prince, and I "officially" decided it was...so there! In all seriousness, it was nice to finally have something going on that didn't involve 400lb umpires or 400lb third basemen (sorry Casey, I'm referring to your beloved Pablo Sandoval). Instead, we were treated to a weekend of overweight, middle aged guys hitting golf balls, and mostly anonymous girls kicking around a soccer ball.....yippee. (Translation: PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD, COME BACK SOON NFL! COME BACK!)

As always, I have some thoughts.

BDT with Casey and Prince (July 17)

Between the maple bars and his tweets, Golden Tate is a never ending source of entertainment. Thank you Golden!

Jon, Casey, and Prince react to Golden Tate's controversial tweets and determine what is and isn't a sport.

Dwight Howard's Value and David Kahn's Search (July 14)

Ah, yes...I can see why The Kahn would be interested!

NBA lockout: 14 days and counting...

Only two weeks in and I find myself starved for something, ANYTHING, to happen. Just one crappy free agent signing, just one dumb trade...I HAVE NEEDS! Thankfully, the Big Quote Machine (Shaq) is completely unshackled from his NBA lockout/PR burdens and is free to stir the pot like only Shaq can.

Oscars Reset -- 2003 (July 13)

After 3 solid months...the Oscars have returned! And no, it hasn't gotten any better...
"While our pace has slowed to the crawl of an old man with two broken legs, we are undeterred. Though it has become apparent the 2012 Oscars is closer than the completion of our project, we are not discouraged."

These were the two opening sentences of our 2002 Oscars post...and yes, I think we're starting to get discouraged. Somewhere in between the 2002 Oscars and 2003 Oscars, the old man with two broken legs also broke his glasses, had a folding chair fall on him, threw out his back, and suffered a massive stroke...yep, that about summarizes our pace! Well, you've been waiting long enough...the 2003 Oscars!

Shaq and Yao, the Last of the Great Centers (July 12)

Sadly, we won't be seeing a matchup like this anytime soon...
We’re now at Day 12 of the NBA Lockout and there is still no end in sight. Goodness knows I’d give an appendage for a random, out of left field deal to break later on this afternoon, but I won’t be holding my breath. Since I have absolutely no desire to talk or write about the lockout, I figured I’d examine another little problem the NBA is having. Check out this list and see if you can identify what I’m talking about:

BDT with Prince (July 12)

Boy golly gee, I sure hope Jim Tressel doesn't fire me!

Jon and Prince talk about the OSU scandal and the future of Terrelle Pryor.

Mr. 3000 Response (July 11)

I really hate what I had to do here...
This post is in response to Casey Richey’s earlier ‘Mr. 3000’ post. If you haven’t yet read it, please follow the link and do so. It’s extremely well written and an interesting take on Derek Jeter and his accomplishments.

Casey, as you can imagine, I nearly fell out of my chair when I read Mr. 3000. Part of that may have been because it was 8:00am and I’m a literal zombie until around noon, and part of it may have been because I immediately go into a fit of rage anytime I’m forced to recollect that abomination of a movie the late Bernie Mac unleashed on us all. Whatever the case may be, I was absolutely shocked at your take on Derek Jeter.

Mr. 3000 (July 11)

If I told you Casey wrote 1,500 words on this movie, would you read it?
Written by: Casey Richey
Casey is a frequent contributor to Boris Diaw Time! and a regular guest on the Boris Diaw Time! podcast. Also, considering my lack of knowledge/interest in all matters baseball, Casey is our unquestioned head of the MLB department.

Musial. Mays. Ripken. Gwynn. Boggs. Jeter.  Do you feel like one of those names just doesn’t quite seem to fit in? I know what you’re thinking: “Get Ripken off of there!” Don’t worry, I kid. But seriously, if you aren’t living in a cave right now, you’ve probably heard from the media that Derek Jeter has achieved his 3,000th hit. Furthermore, you’ve probably heard from them that he is a sure-fire Hall-of-Famer, is the best leader in the history of the game, gives 110% day in and day out, is scheduled to be knighted by the Queen next month, gives his entire salary to charity, and donated both his kidneys for dying children.

2011 NBA Free Agent Bonanza!: What Could Have Been (July 5)

In this picture, Joe Dumars is explaining why committing $93 million over five years to Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva is a good idea. The real travesty of the lockout is the fans being deprived of another opportunity to see Joe Dumars with available cap space. It really is a beautiful thing...
As anticipated, the NBA owners and the players union were unable to reach an agreement before the July 1 deadline and the lockout is now in full effect. While this is a bit of a blow for sports fans, since both the NFL and NBA are now in a lockout, I remain optimistic that no games will be missed in either sport. Maybe I’m the only one, but I’m not quite jumping off the ledge yet.

BDT with Prince (July 4)

This podcast has a lot in common with Seinfeld...

Jon talks to Prince about...pretty much nothing. (Recorded on June 28)
