BDT -- NCAA Tournament Since 2000: Does the Best Man Win? (Mar 31)

You have no idea how many times I've read this stupid book...
Sometimes when I'm at home trying to watch television, my daughter will decide she needs to tell me something. Last night, she wanted me to read her a book. I was, of course, more than happy to read for her. We finished her Thomas the Tank Engine book and I figured I would go back to watching television. My daughter, on the other hand, had other ideas. Looking me square in the eyes and bending me to her will, she excitedly said, "another book!" Mind you, I really, really wanted to chill out and watch TV. Nevertheless, I gave in and happily read her yet another Thomas book.....followed by, "another book!" Soon, her entire book collection had been brought over to me in hopes I would read until my brain literally melted.

BDT by Casey Richey -- It's Baseball Time! (Mar 30)

One artist's depiction of the NL West Division Title race in 2010
Written by: Casey Richey

For the seven of us who still follow MLB, this is a very exciting time of year.  We’ve seen how things are going in the Cactus and Grapefruit leagues, but we don’t really know if that translates to regular season success.  We’ve seen the irresponsibly large contracts get doled out, but we’re not sure whether that actually means these players are on their way up or down (insert Barry Zito joke here).  And we (again, all seven of us who are still paying attention) just can’t wait to learn the answers, because in baseball, it really is true that “Anything can happen.”

BDT with Prince (Mar 29)

You stop with that fake smile Cam! Just stop it!

Jon talks to Prince about NAPA Know How, the quality of the tournament, VCU, and Cam Newton.

BDT -- Where's the Tournament Going?

No, please, tell me how you really feel!
Let me be up front with all of you about my expectations for this post. It's going to be awful. Awful! Most (all) of you are probably thinking, "well, this isn't breaking news or anything." To you I would say...umm, well, I guess I don't have a good comeback. Touche! All I'm trying to do is warn you. Really, I'm just trying to help! You see, I have a couple things going against me today.

BDT -- In Defense of Calipari (Mar 28)

Yes, yes we do! And we love you! Screw everyone else!

This past weekend may very well have been the greatest sports weekend of my life. No kidding! Of course, I've likely had fifteen or so other 'greatest sports weekends' already in the past twelve months...remember, I'm actually a seven year old. Regardless, this past weekend has to rank right up there with the best of them, despite continuing my incredible streak of being sick for over a week. For one, I absolutely crushed our friend Prince in my fantasy basketball championship. I'll spare you the details since nobody actually cares about anybody elses fantasy team, but I will say Prince came out of the fight looking like Rocky after his first fight with Apollo Creed.

BDT -- Kentucky vs. Ohio State (Mar 26)

YES!!!!!!!!!! WE DID IT!!!!!!!!!

Alright, I had to get my yelling out of the way before I try to speak rationally about this game. Well, to be truthful, I've done a lot of yelling already about the game and I very well may break out into spontaneous outbreaks of joy at various points during this post. Forgive me, please.

BDT -- Death of The Jimmer (Mar 25)

Wonderful shot selection there Jimmer!
(Let me preface this entire post by letting you know I'm writing this while very sick and hopped up on various medications. If I happen to say something even dumber than usual (difficult to accomplish), such as, "I love getting text messages from Brett Favre and Greg Oden!", please ignore it and just move on. Now that I think about it, maybe you shouldn't even read this at all.....maybe I shouldn't be writing.....MOVING ON!")

BDT Sweet Sixteen Preview Part I (Mar 22)

I NEED THIS JOSH!!!
Believe it or not, I had an Ohio State-Kentucky dream last night. Keep in mind that I'm actually nine years old, so it's not quite as crazy as it sounds. I still get really excited before big events and have trouble sleeping the night before, so it's not as if this dream was totally out of left field. Still, it's pretty unusual (and weird) to dream about a basketball game four nights before it tips off. And, now that I'm thinking about it, I guess I'd characterize it as more of a nightmare than a dream. You see, in my "dream," Coach Calipari refused to bring any help on Jared Sullinger or adjust his defense and Sullinger scored over and over and over and over.......it was even more repetitive and painful than watching the Napa Know How commercial on a continuous loop for three hours.

BDT 1st and 2nd Round Recap (Mar 21)

This is seriously the best picture I could find of the Napa Know How guy. I think even the internet has rejected this commercial!
Honestly, I could probably sit here all day and try to figure out how to start this post, but the truth is I have no idea where to begin with this recap. So, let me paint you a picture. This is a picture of a man; a man who is sitting at a desk, in an office, feeling tired, and sad, and hungry. This man has just had the greatest four day stretch of his life (one of many "greatest" times of his life), but the reality of life has caught up with him. He's been glued to a couch, watching a television for four consecutive days. He's averaged around 3-4 hours a sleep per night. He's ingested a combination of pizza, wings, burgers/fries, and Chinese food to go along with seven cans of Amp, eleven Mountain Dews, two Dr. Pepper's, and four flavored waters. He has giant bags under his eyes and he's nearly fallen asleep at his desk due to the combination of pain, fatigue, and depression. The depression, of course, coming because this amazing four day stretch had to end. Quite a picture...

BDT Oscars Reset -- 2001

To make a sports analogy, this Oscars Reset project has become a lot like a Cleveland Indians rebuilding project. It was great when we were winning (putting out the 2000 Oscars), but we just couldn't keep it up. Now, all of our best players are gone and we've got nothing. Of course, management (Casey and I) promised it wouldn't take long before the rebuilding project was done (2001 Oscars), but you all know better. Now, here we are, years (days) later, all the fans long gone, trying to make amends. "Come back to the ballpark! We'll sell you $3 hot dogs!" We finally have a product to put out in the field (2001 Oscars) and we're just praying people will come back to the ballpark to see us play. Of course, like the Indians, is a foregone conclusion this thing will fall short...

BDT March Madness Preview (Mar 14)

The most amazing piece of paper in the world!
OH MAN! IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN! I'M SO EXCITED! AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Alright, I'll calm down for a second (literally, because I'm going to hit the roof on some of the things I have to say). For me, this is the single best month of my year. I look forward to it all year and, as soon as its over, I'll immediately start to long for March 2012. It's not that I don't enjoy the other 11 months and all the great sports they have to offer, because I definitely do. College basketball is my favorite sports, without question, and March Madness is the greatest event in sports. Throw in the conference tournaments and it's almost enough to make me stroke out from pure joy!

BDT Thought of the Day (Mar 11)

"Don't worry Terelle, I won't tell anyone!"

Here's how Christmas unfolds in a normal family; mom and dad discreetly figure out what their kids want, secretly go out and buy those things, hide them in the closet until the kids are out of the house, quickly wrap them and re-hide them before the kids get home, put them under the Christmas tree, and have their kids open the presents on Christmas morning. The gifts come as a wonderful surprise to the kids and everyone is full of Christmas cheer while Frosty the Snowman is playing in the background and grandpa is pretending to not be a crotchety old man simply because he feels an obligation to be joyful on Christmas. Please hold while I throw up...

BDT Oscars Reset -- 2000

It's about time these things were given to people who actually deserve them!

Ladies and gentlemen, the time has come! Part one of my long awaited non-sports project is done and I couldn't be more excited to post it! One week ago, I had my friend Casey, a movie aficionado, on the podcast to talk about this years Oscars. For whatever reason, the Oscars always seem to incite a great deal of emotion in people and it was no different for Casey and I. Let's just say that neither of us were terribly satisfied with some of this years award selections. That got me thinking; what if we had the ability to hit the reset button on the Oscars and set the world straight with the "right" picks? Well, that is exactly what this little project is all about. Here's how it works:

BDT Thought of the Day (Mar 9)

I guess if you could eat your way into the Tournament then I'd say Michigan State deserves a berth...
It's that time of year finally! March Madness! Yes, I know, the NCAA Tournament doesn't start until next week, but that doesn't mean the Madness hasn't already begun. For casual fans, the craziness won't kick in until the first 12/5 upset, but for us serious college basketball fans, the Madness has started in full force.

BDT Thought of the Day (Mar 8)

Easily the worst comparison I've ever made!
Remember when you were in 5th grade? Remember how cruel the kids could be? Remember how, one day, Tommy made up a story about you liking Susie and told the entire class? How they all joined in a chorus of that stupid kids song where the two kids end up becoming sexually active, married, and parents of a small child despite being 5th graders? Remember how angry you felt when Tommy kept repeating the blatantly false story of you and Susie? And remember how you yelled and yelled and pleaded with him to get his information correct? Yeah, that's what this post is going to be like...well, sorta. OK, it's barely going to resemble it at all. Let's try again.

BDT Thoughts of the Weekend (Mar 5-6)

Future NCAA hero or future serial killer? You decide!
How dare you accuse me of flaking out on my daily posts after only two posts! Nevermind the three months of evidence to support my flaking tendencies...besides, my computer is kinda broken. Anyways, on to the thoughts!

With Selection Sunday less than a week away, there's only one thing I could possibly focus on in my weekend thoughts; COLLEGE HOOPS! I spent a good deal of this past Saturday (and Sunday) ignoring my family to catch as many games as possible. After all, if I don't feel like I'm in tune with college basketball, how could I feel completely and utterly stupid when my bracket is shot to pieces on the first weekend?

BDT Thought of the day (Mar 4)

Guess who my MVP pick is...No, seriously, guess.

Being a hardcore sports fan is about more than just watching games and cheering your team. It's about immersing yourself in the game and the many debates surrounding your particular point of view. We debate about teams, players, coaches, officials, and everything else in between. Those among us who are dorky enough (definitely me) debate contracts, metric stats, and even the merits of sideline reporters (useless wastes of time...please only hire Erin Andrews or comparable models!).

BDT Thought of the Day (Mar 3)

That's right Pryzbilla, I've got a new nickname for you!

I want to preface this post by saying that I'm going to be trying to put up at least one post per day from now on. I can't promise this will happen consistently, but I'm going to work hard at it.  Between work, family, watching/playing sports, and podcasts, I have very little to write detailed, stat supported blog posts. So, I'm going to try to post one or two paragraphs a day about any sports topic that interests me. ON TO THE POST!

BDT with Casey (Mar 2)

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2012 Summer Olympics!

Jon forces Casey to talk about basketball before railing on the Academy Awards. Casey also introduces Jon to the 2012 Olympics.
