So......the draft last night......uh.....where should I even start? No, seriously, where should I start? I don't know how you felt after the first round ended, but I went home last night thinking, "what the heck just happened?" Prince, who was riding home with me, was thinking the same thing, except his sounded more like this, "WHY?! WHY?! WHY VIKINGS?! WHY?!" And then he jumped out of the car into oncoming traffic...no, I'm only kidding...but seriously, he did.

BDT -- And You Thought the Lions Were Dumb! (Apr 28)

One of the greatest moments in my life...

Here we are, about six hours from the start of the 2011 NFL Draft! No matter what anyone says, including myself, I won't be dissuaded from expressing my exuberant joy! I'm excited to see the surprises, the bad suits, the awkward hand shakes with Roger Goodell, the unnecessary and completely non-insightful interviews, the trades, the new and inventive way my Cowboys will waste our pick, the tears flowing from Prince's face when the Vikings do something dumb, and of course, the sad and agonized look on the face of the last guy waiting in the green room. Honestly, it was such a joy to see Brady Quinn nearly break down and hang himself...one can only hope to witness such an event twice!

BDT -- Way Too Early 2011-2012 CBB Preview; v. 2.0 (Apr 27)

The early entry deadline has come and gone and the landscape of college basketball is starting to take shape. So, why not prematurely rank teams? After all, what could possibly be better than wasting hours on writing something that will be completely irrelevant on May 8 (deadline to withdraw from draft) and is nothing but pure dumb speculation anyways? It's not like I'm not used to being wrong all the time! Sorry, I'm babbling...let's just get to the rankings. (Note: I expanded the rankings from Top 10 to Top 15. I'm planning on expanding to Top 25 after the May 8 deadline passes. Also, if your a Florida fan, please don't go crazy. I somehow screwed up and they should be in the Top 15. I'll correct it on May 8...I promise.)

We aren't picking who will get drafted in a certain spot; we're picking who we would draft if we were in charge of that team. Lost amidst the triumphant Celtics sweep, the shocking Hornets upset, and the buzz over the upcoming NFL Draft (as well as the considerable buzz over how awful me and Prince's mock draft was), is another major sports event. It's an event that marks the tragic end of many young careers; an event that showcases the stupidity of youth and the tragic loss of great talent. Yes, the NBA early entry deadline has now passed and we have a much clearer picture of what the NBA Draft is going to look like.

BDT -- NFL Mock Draft: Jon vs. Prince (Picks 1-10) (Apr 21)

Insert pictures of me and Prince and you'll understand how this works...

We're quickly approaching the NFL Draft and it seems like just about everyone has released a mock draft...or in Mel Kiper and Todd McShay's case, 79 mock drafts. So, why shouldn't I do a mock draft? Well, for one, it would be one of the worst mock drafts you've ever seen! I don't know football nearly as well as I know basketball, so there's not a whole lot of insight I can bring to this. Then again, if Todd McShay is still allowed to do mock drafts after singing the praises of JaMarcus Russell in 2007, then I'm just as qualified as anyone!

The incredible stretch from mid-March to late April is easily the apex of my sports year. Conference tournaments are followed by the NCAA tournament, which is followed by The Masters, which is accompanied by my first few rounds of golf, which is followed by the start of the NBA Playoffs. Sprinkle in some NFL Draft at the end of April and you have quite an incredible stretch of sports! (Prince: before you comment about me leaving out the NHL Playoffs, let me say this. You know the rule; you can't be considered a real sport if you're on Versus!)

One of the oldest and most well known axioms in life is “the more you learn, the more you realize how little you really know.” This particular saying is attributed to Plato, and, although I find Plato to be a total idiot, there’s a lot of merit to the point he’s trying to make.

Truth is there’s an awful lot of stuff I simply don’t understand, no matter how much random knowledge I acquire. Some of that is because, like Plato, I’m actually an idiot, but there are certain things I’m convinced I’ll never comprehend...and believe me, I don’t feel the slightest bit dumb about it. Here are three examples:

One of the coolest things about having a kid is watching her develop. It’s incredible to see how quickly she picks up on language and how she is able to learn so many new things each and every day. Believe me; I’m eagerly anticipating the day I walk in the door to see her violently swinging a golf club in my direction. Though the pain may be great (and, depending on where I’m struck, it very well may be), it will all be worth it to see my little girl interested in golf…I think.

Amidst this current NFL crisis, it’s hard to have much hope for the 2011 NFL season. Thing is, I’m kind of a worrier, so all this talk of litigation and lockout has definitely got me on edge. All I want is football! Well, guess what? In spite of my worrying tendencies, I’m not going to let this lockout get to me. And so, even though there’s a chance no football will be played next year, I’m still going through my normal routine.

You may not believe this, but I once again had the 'Greatest Sports Weekend of my Life' this past weekend! That makes an unprecedented third 'Greatest Sports Weekend' in the last five weekends. That's quite an incredible run if I do say so myself, and I didn't even have to pay $200 million for it! SUCK ON THAT YANKEES! Let's recap the past three days (including Friday) in sports:

I'd say this look just about says it all...

Considering this is a sports blog, and considering my favorite sport is college basketball, I guess I'm obligated to talk about Monday's game. Well...umm...it was...umm...look, what do you want me to say? It was the single crappiest game I've seen since my little brother was playing Upwards basketball in elementary school. Come to think of it, I seem to remember a couple kids actually making shots in those games so I guess Monday's brick fest actually was the worst game of all time! I just don't understand what happened and I really don't know what to say about it.

I'm sure you're expecting something about the national championships game. Here's the deal, I'll write about it when someone finally makes a shot. NO! EASY BUTLER FANS! COME BACK FROM THE LEDGE! I WAS ONLY JOKING!

Look Butler fans, at least you got there. You got there two years in a row! Don't let anyone take that away from you, regardless of how crappy you played Monday night. Anyways, I'm not here to talk about the past...wait, I think I've heard that one before.

BDT -- Cam Newton 'Mock' Scouting Report

In case you were wondering; yes, I'm still alive. Believe me, I was hanging precipitously from the ledge, but the reality is Kentucky had a great run this year. We were in a rebuilding year and we had already gone much further than we really should have. As I've said numerous times, Ohio State was a better team than us, so it's hard to feel too bad after what we've already accomplished. Still, it sucks to lose because you can't make a freaking free throw!

Since, I'm too depressed to talk about basketball, I'll go ahead and run something that has already cheered me up. On last Tuesday's podcast, Prince and I talked about Pro Football Weekly's scouting report of Cam Newton. In case you haven't had a chance to read it, here it is. Scroll on down to the negatives and tell me if you've read anything like that before in your life! I love the 'fake smile' part so much! Since Prince and I openly despise Cam Newton and think he will be a huge NFL bust, we thought it might be fun to try our hands at writing our very own "scouting reports" for Newton. Enjoy!

While our pace has slowed to the crawl of an old man with two broken legs; we are undeterred. Though it has become apparent the 2012 Oscars is closer than the completion of our project; we are not discouraged. After all, what else are we going to do with our time? It's not like Casey has his first kid due in a couple weeks or anything. It's not like that won't take up nearly every waking moment of his life for the foreseeable future. It's not like Casey won't be covered in snot and throw up 50% of the time. Nope...nothing going on. (aka. don't expect the 2003 Oscars Reset for quite some time...) That having been said, THE 2002 OSCARS!
