Final Draft Thoughts: Best Case/Worst Case

Don't get LeGarrette upset, Tampa Bay!
Finally, after weeks of endless speculating and posturing, the wait is over and the NFL draft commences tonight. With trade talks heating up all over the league, it really is hard to foresee how this first round will shape up past the first two picks. That in mind, here are best case/worst case scenarios for each team (or as many teams as I fit in before I get bored):

(Warning: These may or may not all be serious. I mean, come on, haven’t we all heard everything in painful detail by now? Let’s have some fun with this.)

Indianapolis Colts

Best Case: A random Washington Redskins administrative assistant casually comments that “it’s exciting to get the second best QB in the draft,” sending Dan Snyder into a panicked, ego driven craze. He immediately calls Ryan Grigson and offers the #2 pick, Brian Orakpo, Ryan Kerrigan, Trent Williams, and every draft pick until 2018 for the right to take Luck.

NFL Mock Draft: Jon vs. Prince (Picks 21-32)

Please, feel free to mock our mock draft.
As promised, here is the third and final installment of the Boris Diaw Time mock draft. Again, this mock draft is a little different from the typical ones on ESPN. We aren't picking who will get drafted in a certain spot; we're picking who we would draft if we were in charge of that team. Prince and I alternate picks and there were plenty of interesting ones in the top ten. Don't forget, we have no idea what we're talking about so don't get angry if you hate our picks.

If you missed the first ten picks, you can find them here:

NFL Mock Draft: Jon vs. Prince (Picks 11-20)

More bad picks, more bad discussion

Message to Cleveland: Trent Richardson is a Bad Idea

Poor Browns fans don't even know they're getting hosed again.
Be prepared, football fans, for the most useless 20 minute stretch in television history. It’s coming, and soon.

I am, of course, referring to the beginning of the NFL Draft. Make no mistake; I’m excited for the draft. It’s one of my favorite sporting events of the year, no matter how nerdy that makes me sound. But that doesn’t change the fact that the first 20 minutes of Thursday’s draft will be completely and utterly useless.

NFL Mock Draft: Jon vs. Prince (Picks 1-10)

This picture will never get old
We’re less than two weeks away from the start of the NFL Draft, which of course means that each of our nation’s 15 million draft “experts” have mobilized. They are currently camping on Mel Kiper’s lawn, feverishly scrawling one mock draft after another to post on their blog, and tweeting things like “I have this friend who knows this one guy that works for the Jaguars, and he told him…” Ah yes, the NFL Draft. Such a wonderful, yet totally stupid event.

Speaking of posting dumb mock drafts on sports blogs, Prince and I are back to do our annual version of the mock draft. Last year’s edition had…limited results, to say the least. For starters, we didn’t select Cam Newton. At all. We went through all 32 first round selections and never once considered taking Newton. So yeah, that wasn’t really the best call either of us have ever made.

NFL Draft Strategy: Trade Up, or Down?

Jacksonville traded up six spots for Gabbert...I'm sure you can guess who won that trade.
It’s a hard thing to explain, but in many ways, the NFL offseason is more interesting to me than the actual season. Of course, there aren’t many people who share this point of view, and that’s OK. I admit, my obsession with the offseason is overtly depraved. It’s gotten so bad that I routinely rush through the actual games on my Madden franchise, sometimes simulating whole blocks of them, just so I can get to the offseason.

If this is your only image of Dontari Poe, don't worry, you too can be an expert!
Jon and Prince talk about some high risk/high reward draft prospects, the lack of depth in this year's draft, and the potential impact of eliminating kickoffs.

The Post-HOF QB Apocalypse, and Andrew Luck

Perhaps the Colts best attribute is being really bad at exactly the right time...
On Thursday, April 26, the Indianapolis Colts will make Andrew Luck the #1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft. In doing so, they will have completed one of the most interesting cycles the sports world has to offer us; replacing a legend.

That the Colts will select Luck is not really up for debate. Shy of literal death or an unfortunate farming accident that claims Luck’s right arm, there is nothing that would sway them from this course. In fact, I would probably argue that they would select him even if he were to tear both ACL’s this very afternoon. That’s how good he is, and that’s how highly the Colts view him.

Way Too Early College Basketball Preview

Even the Fresh Prince would be jealous of this!
The 2011-2012 college basketball season is now fully in our rearview mirror, and while I’d love to eternally cling to the memory of Kansas players fearfully hurling the ball 40 feet in the air to avoid being blocked by Anthony Davis’ uni-brow (though he somehow ended up blocking most of those anyways), even I must carve out enough room in my heart to look forward to next year.

A Worthy Target of Outrage

Ozzie may be kinda dumb, but is this really worth getting all worked up over?
If there's one thing I know about sports fans, it's that they loooooove to have themselves a good controversy to be outraged over. Whether it's a radio host accidentally swearing on the air, or an internet editor putting up an innocent, though unfortunate, headline, you can be sure the sports world is waiting on their collective high horse, ready to pounce at a moment's notice. Perhaps this tendency is mostly a creation of the media, or perhaps it speaks more to an unfortunate societal trend. I tend to think the latter is more likely, as these constant bursts of outrage seem to be more and more commonplace in any and every social forum.

Not the Death of College Basketball, Just Business as Usual

No matter what anyone says, Calipari deserves this
You might have noticed my relative silence on the blog as of late, having done absolutely no writing in over a week. Considering the events of the past week (ie. Kentucky winning the national championship), this might strike you as odd. After all, how could the world’s most insane Kentucky fan NOT flood his sports blog with recklessly written and insanely biased content during the most glorious run of his sports life? Well, there are several reasons, in fact:

1. Everything would have been recklessly written and insanely biased. More so than usual, even. And really, how many times do non-UK fans need to hear about Kentucky’s overwhelming talent, unselfishness, etc.? (Note: I could seriously read about it all day. All. Day.
