The 2011 Total NFL Draft (Round 4)

Special announcment: Wade Phillips will be taking over Casey's team.

In case you missed it, here are the previous rounds.

Round 1     Round 2     Round 3

Local sports radio in Columbus, OH can be severely hit or miss, but there is one show that is an absolute MUST LISTEN every day. From 3-6pm, Monday-Friday, “Common Man and the Torg” grace my radio and carry me through the grueling end of my workday. If you’ve never listened to them, I strongly urge you to give it a shot…I’m sure you’ll love it. To get an idea of what their show is like, just imagine a typical podcast with me and Prince…only make it about five times angrier and more inappropriate. Oh yeah, and also they mostly know what they’re talking about and they have real guests on who don’t fall under the “idiot friends” category. So basically not like the podcast at all…moving on.

The BDT Podcast (Sep 29)

Prince has a bold prediction for these guys...and it isn't good.

Jon and Prince make some "Bold Predictions" for Week 4.

Week 4 Picks

I'll make you a deal, Matt Ryan. If you take down Tarvaris Jackson for me, I'll consider giving your nickname back to you. No promises though!

If only every Sunday could be as entertaining and eventful as Week 3. Any way you slice it, last week provided some of the most entertaining football I’ve ever seen. Most of all, the sheer volume and magnitude of the comebacks was incredible. Every 1pm game involved some sort of comeback, highlighted by Detroit’s from down 20 and Buffalo’s from down 21. Yes, Week 3 was a fantastic week of football for many, many reasons.

The Andrew Luck Sweepstakes -- Week 3 Update

This guy probably shouldn't be getting the big carries on 4th and 1

Three weeks in and this race is heating up! After some surprising results from the first three games, a clear hierarchy is starting to form, and the true contenders are showing themselves. As I’ve noted before, it’s shocking to me how many horrendously bad teams there are in the NFL. Even some of these 2-1 teams are just awful! Still, only 1 team can win the ultimate prize. Picking up clutch losses against fellow contenders is the key to victory. Let’s see who’s been successful at that.

The BDT Podcast - Part II (Sep 27)

Once again, Tarvaris sends me to defeat.

Jon and Prince pick the Week 4 games/lines.

NFL Buy or Sell

Tom Brady, please step aside. We have a new winner of the Worst Hair Ever award...CURTIS PAINTER!!!
As is typically the case early in the NFL season, confusion reigns supreme as scores of predictions and "expert's" opinions are invalidated by shocking early season outcomes. This is not to say that everyone who comments on football is dumb. Fact is, anyone who puts themself out there and makes early NFL predictions is definitely going to be wrong about a lot of things. It's just the nature of the beast. While many complex things in our world are predictable to a certain degree (the economy, politics, Jon Gruden calling every single player "outstanding" during a MNF broadcast), the NFL stands alone as one of the most difficult things to forecast. Much like your local weather guy (who probably has a degree from the University of Phoenix), NFL prognosticators are basically doing nothing more than making educated guesses.

Week 3 Picks

Something tells me this Jay Cutler isn't as worried about taking sacks as the other one...

Hey, remember when I said the NFL was totally unpredictable and we still didn’t know anything after just one week’s worth of games? Yeah, that was true (Please see Ravens vs. Titans). Guess what? We still don’t know anything! After an extremely small sample size of 2 games, we might know approximately 5-10% more than we did to start the season. As is always the case, there will likely be at least 2 or 3 “shocking” results that turn the NFL world upside down. You’d think after decades and decades of this, we’d be a bit more conditioned to it, but then how would the “experts” find ways to continually pat themselves on the back and appear to be intelligent every week?

The Andrew Luck Sweepstakes -- Week 2 Update

Somebody on this list reminds me of Interceptaverde...can you guess who?

Finally, after 2 weeks of games, it’s time to significantly shake up the rankings. Prime contenders like Washington and Buffalo have all but eliminated themselves from contention, while 2010 division winners Kansas City and Indianapolis have thrust themselves into the heart of this epic race.

Like last week, there is one new entrant to the Sweepstakes. Unlike last week, we have chosen to eliminate one team from the race after a hot start rendered them ineligible for the ultimate prize. Let’s take a look at where things stand through 2 weeks.

For Ohio State, Braxton is a No-Brainer!

Not surprisingly, Bauserman and I have the exact same throwing motion...and the exact same skill set.
After Saturday's embarrassing 24-6 trouncing by un-ranked Miami, the majority of Buckeye Nation is either holed up in their basement with a bottle of Jack Daniels or hanging precipitously from a 7th story ledge. On its own, the loss wasn't overly devastating or surprising (though any loss to Jacory Harris can make one question his or her existence). After the turmoil of the offseason, and with several star players still suspended, it stood to reason that a road game against a talented Hurricanes team would be a stiff test. No, it was the manner in which the team lost that left Ohio State fans borderline suicidal.

Don't worry, team! These new kickoff rules are sure to prevent my incompetence from sinking the season!
There are certain kinds of people out there who live their life with literally no regrets. None whatsoever. Now, the cynical side of me wonders if they are simply living in an unfortunate state of denial. Even still, a large amount of "no regret" must be maintained in order to carry out such a charade. These people don't regret previous ill-conceived ideas, poorly executed plans, lapses in judgment, disastrous relationships, or any other unfortunate situations that any normal person would find themselves in at one time or another. They simply accept their fate and deal with it.

The Andrew Luck Sweepstakes -- Week 1 Update

Alright Chad, now I'm just confused...

Week 1 provided little clarity about…well, about anything. At this point, hordes of columnists and talking heads have taken to their medium to make all sorts of concrete, definitive statements about certain teams and players. Rex Grossman has suddenly turned the corner and the Redskins are in prime position to make the playoffs. The Pittsburgh Steelers have fallen off into mediocrity. Yes, it’s that time of year again when 99% of the sports world becomes “prisoners of the moment,” drawing conclusions from the smallest of sample sizes.

An Inevitable Divorce

If only I had gotten out early...

I have an announcement to make. A very personal and very difficult announcement to share with all of you. I am getting a divorce. I know, it's sad and horrible. Week 1 Picks

Why?! Why must you make me believe, every single year?!
I'm late in posting this, but I wouldn't dare dream of depriving you of definitive evidence of how dumb I am. If you listened to the podcast, then you already know my picks. Unfortunately, not everyone listens. I'm assuming that has something to do with not wanting to hear me drone for 30-45 minutes. Whatever. Your loss! (Not really)

For those who did not get a chance to listen to the podcast, here's the deal. Prince and I are going head to head on the year. We are picking games and lines, and we'll have some sort of wager on the combined result (Please, send your suggestions for what the bet should be). Here's what we picked for Week 1.

The Andrew Luck Sweepstakes -- Preseason Wrap-Up

Savvy move by Jacksonville! Let the Sweepstakes begin!

Through the first 3 weeks of the preseason, the top contenders in the Andrew Luck Sweepstakes have remained mostly static. No major injuries have changed the landscape; no random and unexplainable Cam Newton emergence has turned the race upside down. Yep, things have been relatively calm on the “Suck for Luck” front…until now.
